Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical engineers are involved with the design, analysis, testing, manufacturing, control, operation,
and maintenance of, any system that has a moving part. It deals with all aspects of the conversion of
thermal energy into useful work and the machines that make this possible. If you are intrigued by how
things work, fascinated by robots and automobile engines, then mechanical engineering may be the
profession for you.

The department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the year 2008 and the present intake is 30 .

The department is also offering M.Tech program in Machine Design with an intake of 18 students since 2013.

The department has 20 eminent faculty assisted by 6 technical staff. The department is headed by
Dr.M.Ramarao having vast industrial and teaching experience of 10 years. The department currently has
one professor having research/academic/ industrial experience. Faculty research experience covers a
wide range of current problems which have immediate application to industry. Some of the research work
includes projects related to Welding Technology, and Robotics.

The faculty of the department published papers in over 48 International Journals, 8 National Journals, 20
International Conferences and 46 National Conferences so far. The department has well equipped
laboratories with research facilities. The CAD/CAM laboratory has latest software’s for modeling and
analysis like AUTOCAD, ANSYS, CATIA, FULENT, IRONCAD, CADDEM, MATLAB AND ADAMS etc.

The department houses 10 well equipped state of art laboratories and one center of excellence in which
the students are encouraged to do in house research projects. Mechanical Engineering deals with the
formulation, design, development and control systems and components involving solid mechanics,
dynamics and controls, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, manufacturing and conversion of energy
into useful work. Industries that use mechanical engineers are involved in robotics, computer aided
design/manufacturing (CAD/CAM), automotive/transportation, air-conditioning and refrigeration and
having center of excellence in CAD/CAM domain.

The senior faculty has been drawn from various Industries/Research/Academia for imparting quality
education and skill development for students to make them industry ready. Some of the senior faculty are
presently rendering services to University of Hyderabad, Engineering Staff Collage of India, JNTUK and
other reputed Industries by delivering expert lectures on current research trends to MTE Industries,
Cyient, Sri Venkateshwara Industries Limited (Gear manufacturing unit), DMRL, Hyderabad etc. Senior
faculties are also guiding and reviewing M.Tech and Ph.D thesis of various leading universities. The young
faculty is encouraged to pursue their higher studies and research.

Many eminent Researchers/Industrial Experts/Academia are invited for giving expert lectures in current
Technologies/Research trends for the benefit of the students. The department conducts annual Technical
Fest, Workshops/Technical seminars for the benefit of students to bring out their hidden Talents. The
students are encouraged to participate in National/ International level competitions being conducted at
premier institutes and professional bodies. The students are encouraged by the management of Chebrolu
Engineering College by funding to their R & D projects.

The senior faculties of the department are members of Board of Studies - Aeronautical Engineering, at
JNTUH and GRIET - Mechanical Engineering and book reviewers of leading publishers Tata Mc Graw Hill.
Prof. V. V. S. Haranadh Prasad, head of the department is one of the experts by Govt. of Telangana to give
the views for framing policies for higher technical education towards skills development of Engineering
graduates passing out.

MESTA (Mechanical Engineering students Technical Association) is a student body for conducting carrier
development and skill improvement programmes.

Students of the department have been placed in various companies like TATA Advanced Systems, Infosys
Technologies Limited, Tech Mahindra, TATA Consultancy Services, Cyient (formerly InfoTech), Wipro,
NTT Data, Satyam Ventures, Hyundai etc. A significant number of graduating engineers are pursuing their
higher studies in various Universities abroad by securing higher qualifying grades in GRE/TOEFL/IELTS
etc.

The most remarkable achievement by Alumni of this department was selection in civil services in IPS
cadre and another student pursuing MBA at IIM Indore placed with dream package in Snap-Deal and some
others at PTC/ANSYS Inc. (West Germany) etc.

M.Tech (Machine Design)

M.Tech (CAD/CAM) is a two year full time post graduate program approved by the all India Council of
Technical Education (AICTE) for the students who have B.E/B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering /
Automobile Engg./ Metallurgy / Industrial Engg / Mechanical Engg. (Mechatronics) / Mechanical Engg.
(Production) /Aeronautical Engg / Production Engg. / Industrial and Production Engg. / Marine Engg. /
Mining Engg. (or) equivalent. The course is offered by department of Mechanical Engineering by highly
qualified and experienced teaching faculty. Intake to this course is 18, selected by JNTUH through
PGCET/GATE.

The Course offers core subjects like Advanced CAD, Advanced FEM, DFM, Precision Engineering, CFD,
Numerical Methods, Advanced CAM, Industrial Robotics, DH&PS, FMS, Automation in Manufacturing etc.

A dedicated project work is taken up by every student for the next two semesters. The project work is of
high quality basing used in current industry practices. Project work is supported by leading MNC’s and
defense laboratories doing state of art research and development.
